Advocacy - Start with your voice

Speaking up isn’t always easy, but your voice can shape your care, build your confidence, and strengthen your community. This month, we explore the quiet strength of advocacy. It often starts small - with a question, a pause or a moment of trust.

Advocacy - Start with your voice

This month, we’re reflecting on a quiet kind of strength: speaking up.

In the middle of appointments, treatments, and decisions, it’s easy to lose your voice. That’s why we’re exploring what advocacy really means and how even a small question or pause can change your experience of care.

Advocacy means speaking up for your health, your needs, and your peace of mind. It’s asking questions, seeking clarity, and being part of the decisions that affect your care. That’s not always easy. A cancer diagnosis often brings fear, urgency, and the feeling that everything must move fast. But we’ve seen time and again: when someone finds the courage to pause and say, “I need more information,” or “Can we talk about other options?” things shift. One of our clients once said, “I didn’t know I was allowed to say no.”  She thought she had to accept everything that was suggested. But when she asked about alternatives, she learned she actually had choices and that changed everything.

Advocacy doesn’t have to be loud. It can be a quiet question. A request for time. A moment of trusting yourself.

Your voice matters. Let it be part of the journey.

Have you ever spoken up during your cancer journey or wished you had?
We’d love to hear your story. Your voice might be exactly what someone else needs to hear. Send us a message and we will share it right here on the blog.

The Power of Advocacy in the Cancer Community

Advocacy in cancer goes beyond the individual —it is an act of standing up for others, especially those who may not be able to speak for themselves during a challenging time. Whether you're a survivor, caregiver, friend, or simply someone who cares, your voice can make a meaningful difference.

Advocating for others can take many forms. You might raise awareness about screening, early detection, treatment options, or the realities of living with cancer. Sharing facts—and human stories—can break down stigma and encourage people to seek the help they need.

Sometimes, advocacy means sharing your own story. By opening up about your experience, you can help others feel seen, understood, and less alone. Your journey may inspire someone else to take action or seek support.

Advocacy can also be about changing the system. This might mean pushing for better access to care, supporting local cancer initiatives, or working with healthcare providers to improve how services are delivered in your community.

No matter the path, advocacy strengthens the entire cancer community. Every voice matters—and together, we can make a difference.

Walking Through the Storm

Huda Al Ali

This painting represents self-advocacy, that quiet strength that begins with a step of self-belief. Through it, it inspires others to choose themselves because they deserve life.

This image is deeply symbolic and powerful. It represents resilience and determination despite life's storms, like the battle with cancer. The rain symbolizes hardship, pain, and challenges. The umbrella represents the person's own voice, offering support and protection. The girl symbolizes the patient - someone who doesn’t give up and believes that the first step starts with them. Walking forward expresses strength and willpower, with confidence - because hope never breaks

Using unconventional tools adds a unique artistic touch and encourages creativity, such as toothbrushes, sponges, and others. They give fun artistic effects that encourage free expression and break the usual pattern of drawing with a brush.

SUMMARY

Advocacy doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. Whether it’s for yourself or others, speaking up—asking questions, sharing your story, or simply pausing to reflect - can shape your care and inspire change. Your voice matters. Let it be part of the journey.
